Within the next few weeks there will be a General Election and you will have the chance to vote in the brand-new Bridlington and The Wolds Parliamentary Constituency. The longer the Conservatives desperately cling on to power the more damage is caused to our NHS, public services, living standards and communities. That’s why Labour is calling for a General Election now so you have the chance to vote and end 14 years of Tory chaos and national decline. At the general election we will be asking you to vote Labour and help us return a Labour MP to stand up for our communities.

 VOTE LABOUR for a fresh start to save the NHS

 NHS waiting lists are at a record high. Just 24% of people are satisfied with the NHS, the lowest since records began in 1983 (British Social Attitudes Poll). This is a shameful decline caused by over 14 years of Tory neglect. Under the last Labour Government satisfaction in the NHS reached its highest level ever at 70%. Labour is the Party that created the NHS. The Tories voted against it. We have turned it around before and we will do it again. Labour will deliver two million more appointments a year, train more doctors, nurses and midwives, recruit more NHS dentists and reform social care.

VOTE LABOUR for a fresh start to save our beaches and rivers

Environment Agency data (March 2024) revealed that in 2023 the release of untreated sewage into our rivers and coastal waters more than doubled. That included 336 spillages in the Bridlington area, 284 near Hornsea and 152 in the Driffield area. Hospital admissions for water-borne diseases have rocketed. Meanwhile, privatised water companies made excessive profits and paid massive bonuses to their bosses. Clean beaches and waterways are essential for health, the tourist industry and the rural economy in our region. Labour calls for an immediate ban on bonuses for polluting water bosses. A Labour Government will put the water companies into tough special measures. Law breaking water bosses will face criminal charges and new regulatory powers will block bonuses until the water companies have cleaned up their filth.

It’s not just the state of our NHS and our rivers and beaches that needs to be turned around; it’s also the failing privatised railways, our bus services, schools, lack of affordable housing and cuts to local government finances. The Tories have shown they simply can’t be trusted to tackle the environmental challenges whereas Labour is committed to setting up Great British Energy, a publicly owned generation company that will create skilled jobs, cut your bills and provide the UK with energy security. Labour is committed to 100% green electricity by 2030 and our Warm Homes Plan will fund energy efficient home improvements. There will be a proper windfall tax on the excess profits of oil and gas companies to support families with the cost of living.

Only Labour can defeat the Tories in Bridlington and The Wolds.

It is on a knife edge. According to respected modelling agency Electoral Calculus, there is just 1 percent between Labour and the Tories in our Parliamentary Constituency [accessed 2 April 2024]. Your vote will be crucial.

The Government introduced unnecessary new voting requirements so now you need photo ID to vote at a polling station - such as a passport, driving licence or an older person’s bus pass. Alternatively, you can apply for a postal vote at: https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.
